This article from the New York Times shows the costs of war on the historical treasures Syria is known for. These monuments belong to all Syrians and are not only a source of national pride, but also a source of revenue from the visitors that come to see them. While Syria has never been a big tourist draw like Egypt or Jordan, it is mostly because people just don’t know how much Syria had to offer the visitor. Now these treasures are being threatened by the war.
