Safeer Program

In Arabic, Safeer means ambassador. We are establishing a network of Safeers from our many supporters across the country. The goal is to have local contacts for people around the nation to contact, ask questions, get involved, and for the Safeer to be the voice of SCM in their community.

As we grow the program, we will include the new Safeer’s information here so you can see who is closest to you if you need to contact someone about SCM closer to where you live. While we are setting up the program and getting the infrastructure for communicating effectively with them, please contact us and we will put you in touch with the Safeer closest to you. Soon we will have a direct link so you can communicate directly with them from our website. It’s a work in progress!

Meet our newest Safeers!

Emilie Whitman, Bellingham, WA (soon to be Washington, DC)

Emilie is a humanitarian and freelance writer with a B.A. in history from Westmont College. While studying abroad in Istanbul, Jordan, and the West Bank, Emilie developed a keen interest in the MENA region both past and present and became deeply concerned about the situation in Syria. In 2014 she had the opportunity to volunteer for four months at SCM’s Malki Children’s Center in Amman, assisting in therapy programs for displaced Syrian children with PTSD. She also joined two SCM medical missions throughout Jordan as part of the humanitarian and psych teams. In 2015 she volunteered for two weeks with SCM’s medical/humanitarian missions on Lesvos, Greece. Emilie is thrilled to help represent SCM and its commitment to providing dignified aid and hope to people affected by the conflict in Syria as well as bridging cultures through informed, compassionate activism. Maria Serret, Torrance, CA

Maria is a physical therapist, graduated from University of Southern California in 2002 with Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and in 2006 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Her family comes from a diverse background: Cuba, Mexico and Spain, and she has volunteered locally in her community since college. In 2014 after watching an emotional CNN video on the Syrian Civil War, she searched and found Salaam Cultural Museum and its medical mission information online, and contacted us. Rita had had her booked within a week for a trip to Jordan the following month! She has since been on another mission with us.

Diana Droubi is a dermatologist currently based in the San Francisco Bay area. She and her husband had the opportunity to participate in the medical mission in September 2014 and were profoundly affected by the suffering and the impact of the war in Syria on innocent civilians. They were also inspired by their incredible resilience. She is a proud Syrian-American and thrilled to be a representative of SCM. She is committed to doing what she can to raise awareness about the plight of Syrian refugees.
